Getting Started

Welcome to the forum! First it was already a good idea to look at the rules. The forum has multiple subsections of rules, the most important rules for beginners are these Roleplay Rules and the Character Rules, which tell you how to create your Character. Once you read that you might also want to read the Nen Rules, then you are 100% set for making your own Character here.

The other Rules like Combat Rules and Item Rules become important later during the roleplay itself, so make sure to take at least a quick look at them. If you end up reading all rules and still have questions just ask them in the Questions & Suggestions forum or in the Chat, our Staff will help you.

Two thing you need to know while reading the more advanced rules, with all those nasty numbers is, that every decimal is rounded up when calculating anything. Another thing is, if you are asking questions we expect that you read the rules at least once when asking questions.

Setting

2. - Roleplay Rules MdZ782H

Our Roleplay takes place in the world of Hunter x Hunter, just that it is not the exact world. Most organisations, other than the Hunter Association, you know from the Anime and Manga do not exist in our roleplay. The same counts for the people living in the Anime and Manga, non of them exist in our world.

The time is the exact time in the Anime and Manga, shortly before Gon leaves Whale Island. We are not anywhere in the distant future or past. The world is pretty similar to exactly how you have seen it in the series. A modern world similar to our own, other than the mystical ability called Nen, fuelled by Aura.

Unlike the heroes of the Anime and Manga your characters already know how to use Nen from the start, even if you are not Hunters yet or had any natural gift for it and yet it is still a rare ability in our world.

Use this gift to reach whatever you want to! Become a great Hunter or create your own thief organisation! Aim for the place as Hunter Association Chairman or maybe ruler of a country! Try your strength at the Heavens Arena or try finding rare items on Greed Island! There are countless possibilities for your character in our world.

Roleplaying

1. Controlling other player's characters, so called godmodding, is forbidden without the other player's consent. As is everything else that significantly influences characters that are not your own, like killing, immobilizing or gravely wounding them.

2. As powerful as canon-characters may appear, one must remember that these are exceptions from the norm for the most part. Especially since players are usually just starting their journey with starting to play on these forums. Keeping an eye on the possibilities of your characters and using common sense as well as basic logic to determine events of all kinds is a given for balanced play.

3. What a player knows, a character does not necessarily. Just because you know the planned outcome of a scene or adventure, does not mean your character knows how to handle things best. Also, player conflicts are player conflicts and should not be carried into the character-play level, and vice versa character problems are not problems between players.

4. Actions have consequences. This applies to players and characters equally. Players breaking the rules will get punishment corresponding to the severety of their violation and possibly their "record of incidents". The same goes for characters, the game world has laws and practices, which result in ramifications when broken or ignored, like being wanted with a bounty for stealing and killing.

5. Due to the nature of not every location in the world being at the same spot and need to be traveled to, it is usually complicated to justify being in too many places with too many different people. Not only does it prove a chronological problem in general, it is also unrealistic to be in one place at a given moment and at a another place at the other side of the globe in the next.
So characters are only allowed to be in one location at a time, in up to three threads: Two entirely social and one that may include combat of any kind. Switching locations requires appropriate travel.

6. The very much too visual description of certain scenes in game are not allowed. Certain scenes are, naturally, of overly and unnecessarily brutal or sexual nature. Insinuating and roughly menationing these things is fine. For further cases, use common sense. If you are unsure, it's probably bad.

7. Please inform everyone of absence if you happen to be absent. Firstly, so your comrades know what's going on when they wait for your replies. But also for the Team, so we know not to take action against inactive accounts. Otherwise occasional removal of inactive accounts occurs.

8. Hotlinking images should be avoided at all times. Please use imagehost-services like Imgur or whatever you can think off. If we (the team) see hotlinked images we will likely edit your post with a properly uploaded version of the image and remind you to remember in the future. Regardless: repeated happenings for a single person may result in a punishment.

9. Un-"licensed" multi-accounts (multiple characters) are not allowed and will be removed. Additional characters after your first two require permission by an Admin, based on your activity, conduct and quality of content.

10. When roleplaying alone, do not spam your posts. Wait at least 30 minutes before answering to your own post.

Travel

The world is a vast place and travelling the can be both fun and dangerous. To ensure your Characters do not just teleport from one place to another, there are some rules involved with travelling.

Moving within a Region: A Region describes a place big enough for a day worth of walking or longer, for example York New City or Neo-Green Life. Within those Regions you can move anywhere without worrying about your travel-time or creating special posts just for the journey. Again this does not mean your character teleports, it just means it is not important if you take an hour or half a day to reach your destination.

Moving between Regions: To move from one Region to another requires quite a bit of time. You might even want to use some form of transportation. When you move between regions you need to at least write one 500 word long post in the region you are travelling to, with the prefix [Travel]. These Topics are open till you leave them and anyone that wants to can join them. You can not leave a [Travel]-Topic without starting or joining a different topic at your destination.

Moving between Continents: To move between Continents you first need to either get a ship or plane ticket from a shop. After that you can leave from that Region to the ticket's destination. For example you could take a plane from York New to the Republic of East Gorteau. You still need to write an at least 500 word post with the prefix [Travel]. Again this topic is open for everyone to join, till you leave it by starting or joining a different topic.

Special means of Travel: Some shops may offer very rare tickets or other goods for travel. The rules regarding those vary by item.

Jobs: Missions, Quests, Contracts

Jobs is what we call all small to big tasks your Character can take alone or with other Characters. A list of all available jobs sorted by location can be found in the Jobs-Forum and the Job Dealer found in each city.

Picking a Job: Most important is that the job suits your Character. Does he or she want to help the people, earn money, prove something or is maybe even willing to kill? Try to find a job that suits your Character. Also look out for the Jobs with the prefix [Hunter], those are only for owners of a Hunter Licence.
Next you should look at the difficulty rating of the jobs. The jobs are rated by difficulty, where the number represents the average Attribute Rank a Character would need to do the job solo, from 0 to 10. If it is a 0 it does not involve any fighting.
Last you should look at the location of the job. If the job is not offered by a dealer at your Character's current location you might have to travel first.
If you can not find any jobs you like, there is also a Forum to create new jobs.

Taking a Job: Once you decided on the task you want to take and your Character is in the right place to take it, leave a note that you are taking the job in the topic. Next you start a new topic with the prefix [Job] wherever the job takes place and play it out. You may only take one job at a time and you may not repeat the same job within less than 14 days!

Completing a Job: Each job has it's own requirements. A job might make your Character collect something, fight a wild beast, sometimes you even need to travel again before you can complete it. It all depends on the job you chose. Other than the suggested plot for the job you will also find a minimum word count, that needs to be reached to fulfil the requirements, because of that please post your word-count under your roleplay. If you are doing a job with multiple people the word-count is split between all users. You may use as many posts as you need to reach the word-count minimum, but you have to stay in the same topic.

Getting the Reward: After you finished the job, just post back into the topic where you picked the job and let the Staff know that you completed it. The Staff will then look at your roleplay and if you meet the requirements reward you and anyone helping you. Rewards like money and EXP will not be split between Characters, but only the Character that picked the job will get any special reward items, if there are any. Additionally if you write more than the minimum of words required for a Job you get 1 bonus EXP per 200 Words, which is even easier to do with more than one person. Now you may pick a new job.
