Personal Information

First & Last Name: Northland Wellbrook
Age: 26
Eye color: Violet
Hair color: Red
Weight & Height: 178 cm, 65 kg

Appearance & Clothing: With striking locks of fiery red hair and a piercing violet gaze, Northland can appear intimidating to some. He stands at an average height of one hundred seventy eight centimeters, and carries himself with a swagger in his step. His pale skin and sharp features complement his wiry yet muscular frame, and he is well built for his height. On his face are a pair of matching scars that move vertically across his eyes. They are very faint, and can not be seen unless one looks very closely, however they become more visible when Northland expresses deep emotion such as anger or sadness. He also tends to further hide them with a pair of black sunglasses across his face. These are coupled with another accessory, his clacking cherry earrings. Northland is incredibly fond of a particular green coat with brass buttons. It is a near constant addition to his wardrobe and he prefers it buttoned up all the way to the collar. He tends to complete his wardrobe with dress shoes and black or green pants.

Special features: None

Origin and family

Origin: The only child of a simple farm girl and the well-to-do heir of a wealthy banking magnate, Northland grew up in relative comfort on his mother's cherry orchard. Circumstance tore him away from his peaceful life after the loss of those parents however, and he was sent off to live with his grandfather to be raised as a member of society's elite. Despite the tragic loss of his parents, Northwell thrived in that environment, and went on to become a successful business mogul.

Family & close People:

Father - Anders Wellbrook (Deceased)
Anders Wellbrook was a free spirited man who cared little for social conventions and societal norms. Never one to take the path set before him, he dismissed his father's urging to continue his legacy as heir to the Wellbrook Banking Corporation in order to explore the world and himself. On his journey, he fell madly in love with a lovely young farm girl and hastily started a family with her. A highly eccentric man, he was known for his outlandish styles of dress and his easily excitable demeanor. Despite his flaws, Anders was always an incredibly loving father and husband that treated his family with the utmost care.

Mother - Maria Wellbrook
Maria Wellbrook was known as an incredibly kind, thoughtful, beautiful woman who would give as much of herself as possible to the community after doing everything she could for her own family, at least by anyone who did not know her personally. Behind closed doors, she was actually a rather haughty and mean spirited lady. She constantly derided her husband on his poor life choices, his childish behavior, his frivolous spending, and anything else she felt might help her to belittle him. (Anders was actually a closet masochist and enjoyed every biting remark to his very core. It was why he had fallen in love with her.) To her son, she was critical, strict, and demanding, something Northland began to deeply resent as he reached his early adolescence. She still loved him deeply however, and showed her affection for her son in her own way. The accident left her with severe brain injuries, and her cognition has been heavily impaired.

Grandfather - Quentin Wellbrook
A hard worker by nature, Quentin Wellbrook founded and built up a successful, and now international, banking corporation through his own blood, sweat, and tears. Gregarious and charismatic, he was well loved by most anyone that knew him. He was also an incorrigible womanizer, using his quick wit and vast reserves of wealth to bed countless women. The mother of his only child was just another mistress that he had taken on, whom unfortunately died giving birth to the young boy. He loved his son unconditionally however, and when his son gave up on everything that Quentin had built for him, the elderly businessman was never spiteful or angry. On the contrary, he accepted Maria into his family with open arms when the two were wed, and he was overjoyed when the they gifted him with a handsome and healthy grandson. After the accident, Quentin was the first to offer his home and guidance to Northland, and he did his absolute best to raise him as a respectable and successful young man. The two of them get along famously, and they are very rarely in disagreement.

Personality

Personality & Behaviour: Equal parts charisma, eccentricity, cunning, and greed mix together to form the varied psyche of Northland Wellbrook. Some might consider him think him cold or heartless, but Northland merely considers himself to be more vested in self interest than others. He always puts himself before anyone else, and he will rarely involve himself in anything he doesn't believe he can profit from in some way. His definition of profit is not restricted to wealth however, also including sexual conquest, pleasure, experience, and renown as well. Having inherited his father's adventurous nature, and groomed for success by his grandfather, Northland grew into a proud young man who is never satisfied with what he has, and always looks towards the next horizon. He is easily excited by new things, and can quickly become obsessive with anything that matches his unique sense of taste. Anything from archery, to the violin, to remote controlled cars can draw his fancy, and he has amassed various collections and achievements through these pursuits. One of his favorite hobbies is painting, and he believes it to be a man's romance to make profits after ones one death. He sleeps peacefully at night with the knowledge that if he should ever perish, the value of his works would rise astronomically. Northland is particularly fond of cherries, and anything relating to the tiny fruit. Despite the negative feelings that might be associated with them after the accident, he still fondly remembers picking them in his orchard as a child, and he can get very emotional around them. Another of his more unique eccentricities is his fascination with older women, particularly mothers. Northland is an absolutely incorrigible womanizer around attractive women in their late thirties and beyond, but he has little interest in women his own age, and certainly not anyone younger.

In his work, Northland is gregarious and witty with his trade partners, and harsh and unforgiving with his subordinates. He always plays the part he feels will benefit him most and make him the greatest amount profit. Sometimes he might take on the role of the idiot play boy to allow those around him to lower their guard, and others he acts as the unforgiving and shrewd negotiator. His keen eye for discerning the nature of people and ruthless business tactics serve him well in both his occupation and in life. Northland has become quite adept at putting on faces for people, and what he says aloud rarely coincides with what he's thinking. His constant successes have inflated his ego however, and his confidence can come off as arrogance to some. He prefers not to fight or get his hands dirty himself, but when he does he enters the fray with the unwavering belief that he will emerge the victor. He has supreme confidence in himself, and finds it difficult to comprehend the thought of anyone besting him in a physical bout. That same confidence can also cause Northland grief himself, as when his plans don't come together correctly, or when he feels he has failed at something the loss hits him particularly hard. He has been known to sink into deep bouts of depression for days at a time after failed business ventures, and he tends to drown his sorrows in drink and women during these times.

Strengths & Weaknesses: Northland's main strength is his incredible drive to achieve that which he desires. He is quite adept at envisioning the steps he must take to assure his satisfaction, and through his influence, wealth, perseverance, and cunning, he nearly always gets what he wants. The opposite side of this is that if Northland should ever fail to accomplish his goals his drive is instantly drained to nothingness, and his normally charismatic and sharp witted self is reduced to a listless and dull husk of the former for some time. This makes comebacks virtually impossible for Northland, and it also means he becomes quite desperate when he seems to be on the losing end of a competition.

Another of Northland's greatest assets is the diversity of his skills. Due to his easily excited and highly curious mind, he has trained in boxing, karate, archery, swordsmanship, firearms, and knife throwing, all to a moderately proficient level. He is also fluent in the four most widely used languages, and an amateur safe cracker. He is so proud of his lengthy repertoire of skills, and has bragged about them to such an extent, that he has finds it very difficult to keep any information about himself, his abilities, or his plans. If asked, he will often boast about the relative foolproofness of the plan, whether or not leaking that information might jeopardize his plan or not.

Goals: Northland believes that a fulfilling life is one in which as much is experienced as possible. Life is full of wonder, and the excitement of seeking out those unknown mysteries fills Northland with satisfaction. Having grown bored with the management of business, he has most recently turned his attention to learning the secrets behind "Nen", and auctioning off single, high value items on the black market. The thrills of expanding his knowledge on a new type of energy in his body previously unknown to him, as well as the incredible high he feels when making huge gains off of a single rare item, rather than thousands and thousands of copies of the same mundane product, are two of his greatest joys in life. Both of them are overshadowed by his incredible lust for wealth however, and profit is always the first thing on his mind regardless of the situation.

History
On a quaint little farm surrounded by a cherry orchard in a rural region of the Aizan Continent, Anders and Maria Wellbrook began their newlywed life. Deeply in love with each other, but each with their own oddly unique way of showing it, they began their life with the early intention of starting a family. Their consistent efforts paid off, and hardly nine months after the two were wed, Maria gave birth to the first member of the next generation of Wellbrooks: Northland Wellbrook. He led a happy and relatively normal childhood, growing up listening to his father's nonsensical stories regarding his travels, and working with his mother out on the cherry orchard. Even as a child, Northland loved to learn new skills and expand on his knowledge of the world, and he was a very well read and well rounded child. He loved his parents very much, and the three of them were a very happy family. Quentin, Northland's grandfather, visited them quite often and he was incredibly fond of the newest addition to the Wellbrooks. The feelings were mutual, and Northland looked forward to every time his grandfather would burst through the door carrying lavish gifts and food stuffs. The two of them got along famously, and it was no exaggeration to say that Quentin spoiled his grandson. Maria was rather disapproving, but she usually said little after receiving an extravagant present herself.

When Northland was fourteen, tragedy struck his peaceful existence. He and his parents were out picking cherries, as they had many times before. Maria was berating Anders on how slow he was, and how Northland was picking cherries at nearly twice his rate. Hearing this, Anders only began to pick more slowly, hoping to have his wife scold him even more. Northland was smirking at his parents while continuing to pick cherries when it happened. The cherry picking incident ensued, too horrific for words to describe. Northland was lucky to only be left with light scars on his eyelids, having shut them tight to keep himself from seeing the scene unfolding before him. His father was killed while trying to protect his mother, and Maria incurred major brain trauma during the accident. Still coherent enough to speak to her son, Maria told Northland to run off to the house and call the paramedics. Northland, never one to disobey his mother stumbled blindly through the orchard towards where he knew the house would be and followed her instructions. Then, wiping the blood from his eyes on his sleeve, he rushed back out to where his mother lay, bleeding from her head. Northland did his best to bandage the wound before the paramedics arrived, but by the time she was hospitalized there was no way to reverse the damage that had been done. Maria was hardly short of comatose, and certainly in no condition to take care of her son any longer.

Quentin, horrified by news of the tragedy, immediately offered Northland his home and his shoulder. The young boy took it, and though deeply saddened by the loss of his parents, he did not let it hold him back for long. After giving him what he felt was adequate time to grieve, Quentin occupied Northland's mind with study, practice, and sport. With his moderate fortune at his disposal, he was able to provide Northland with excellent tutors and instructors for various fields that might help him in business or keep his mind looking towards the future. Not one to be held down by his past, and with the support of his grandfather, Northland was able to return to a happy life, albeit an entirely different one. He still visited his mother from time to time and cared deeply for her, however his paradigms had shifted and he became more and more interested in business, profit, competition, and adventure. Still, he never forgot his roots, and the first company that he started through his own finances was a cherry packaging and shipping corporation. He began the company at the age of seventeen after studying business with his grandfather for three years, and by the time he'd turned twenty one, Wellbrook Cherries had become a household name.

Once he'd become successful in one field, he quickly found that he became bored with it. So, still retaining rights to the company but leaving it in the hands of a capable subordinate, he decided to take a more competitive market by storm. So, by using the connections he'd made with pesticide companies during his work at Wellbrook Cherries, he began developing his own insecticides and bug repellents. Under the name of North Industries, he began to do business on a much larger scale than he ever could have achieved by selling cherries. Northland became very interested in the processes, and could often be seen touring the factory floors in an attempt to glean even more knowledge. He continued to expand his business until he was not only producing insecticides, but common household cleaners, industrial acids, manufacturing chemicals, and even tanning oil. North Industries eventually grew to the point where it rivaled other major producers in the world, and Northland became a rather large name in the corporate world.

After reaching a certain level of notoriety, especially in the less morally sound divisions of his chemical manufacturing, it became necessary for him to hire protection in particularly hostile work environments. During one such occasion, Northland needed to travel to the Republic of East Gorteau in order to make a deal regarding chemical weapons. The body guard he hired, Edgar Leske, had been recommended to him by a close colleague, and Northland had been able to tell just by looking at him that he was reliable. Still, despite his confidence in him, Northland's naturally curious nature led him to question the man about his skills during their travels together. What Edgar then conveyed to him was far beyond what Northland could have imagined. He demonstrated his "skills" by seemingly summoning various pistols out of thin air. Each of them had bullets with oddly unique traits, and Northland was amazed at his seemingly "magician" like abilities. Edgar explained that he was able to do this using a technique called "Nen" that allowed him to manifest his aura and use it in various ways. He told Northland that anyone had the aptitude for it, and that it was just a matter of effort in order to gain use of the ability. Upon hearing that, Northland instantly dropped everything, paying Edgar in advance and telling him that his services were no longer required and that he might very well call upon him again, as well as calling in a subordinate to serve as proxy during his negotiations. Northland then began his work on delving into the subject of "Nen", knowing full well that there would certainly be a way to profit from it.

Northot turned back to face Shin as he asked him what it was he was doing. Northot didn't really have an answer, so he just stayed quiet. He was about to knock the skeleton over with his blade, but a sudden jostling sent the Benizakura tumbling to the ground. Northot could hear creaking from in front of him and as he looked up he noticed the skeleton attempting to grab him. The young wizard jumped back for a moment, his hand instinctively moving to his other blade. Northot would draw the weapon, cutting into the skeleton in the same motion in an attempt to defend himself. The young wizard didn't know of the skeleton guard's aspirations, or his sincerity, and even if he did, Northot likely wouldn't care. He was cruel, and this simple skeleton's dreams of appreciation would mean nothing to him if he knew anything about them, which he didn't. The blade would careen through the air, heading directly towards the spine that was below the skeleton's exposed ribs. The creature wasn't moving very quickly, and it was likely that it would be halved nearly instantly unless it was able to respond to Northot's powerful slash.

Assuming the skeleton had been defeated, Northot would reclaim the Benizakura from the ground, somewhat ashamed of dropping his weapon so carelessly, and place it back in its sheathe. He still held his other blade in his right hand, ready to take on any enemy that might attempt to surprise them next. "Hm, seems that wasn't just decoration." Northot said, stepping around the pieces of mangled bone that were likely strewn before him. He would then pull open the rotting door of the castle with no small amount of effort, as the doors seemed to still retain their weight even if large portions had rotted away. "After you." Northot would say tersely, motioning for the other man to walk in before him. The young wizard wasn't about to play trap tester for anyone else, that was for sure. He would then retrieve the strange mask from underneath his Yukata and placed it over his head. Entering the castle gave him a bit of apprehension, and he wanted to ensure he would be prepared to fight when the time came.
